Charles Frump became the Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia in 2021 and has since played an important role in accelerating the growth of Volvo Cars in Malaysia. In the past couple of years, the company has been consistently increasing its overall market share in the fiercely competitive luxury car segment and in 2022 Volvo Car Malaysia recorded its highest ever sales growth with a 43 percent increase from 2021. He has been instrumental in championing Volvo Cars’ electrification ambition in the local Malaysian market.
Under his leadership, the company launched its electrification journey in March 2022, alongside the introduction of its first fully electric vehicle, the Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric. In December 2022, Charles spearheaded the next chapter of Volvo Car Malaysia’s electrification agenda by launching its second fully electric vehicle, the Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric. Both launches saw great success and this is aligned with Volvo Cars’ global ambition of having a fully-electric line-up by 2030 and its goal to become a climate-neutral company by 2040. In addition to this, Charles has an ambitious plan for Malaysia to achieve 75% of its sales to come from electric vehicles by 2025.
Charles’ association with Volvo Cars dates back to 2009. His previous stint with the group was in Sweden where he was Head of Marketing Communications before joining Volvo Car India as the Managing Director. Prior to that he has held various roles in the automotive space, having worked in China, Japan, and the United States.
Outside of work, Charles is a devoted husband who’s been married to his wife, Naomi, for more than 23 years now. He is also a sports enthusiast who loves to play ice hockey and is very much into fitness. Charles is an avid foodie and enjoys travelling in his free time. To date, he has travelled to 58 countries around the globe.
